Viral Social Post Drives Undisan Villagers to Build 750-Meter Trail to Tangkub Waterfall
Hidden within the forested hills of Undisan Village, Tangkub Waterfall began drawing notice in 2016 after a group of young locals went fishing by its base and shared photos online. Word spread quickly among residents and curious explorers eager for a new outdoor escape. At spots where fallen trees blocked the way, villagers cleared brush and placed simple markers to guide visitors. Some maps list the site as “Krisik,” a name older generations still use. Recent community gatherings have focused on widening the main path, hoping to draw guests from Undisan, in addition to neighboring areas and overseas.
Access begins at the village square known as Bale Banjar, where a roughly 750-meter route leads hikers past dense ferns and moss-covered stones. The track climbs steeply at times, so it may prove difficult for children or those with limited mobility. Enthusiasts of trekking and wildlife observation report glimpses of kingfishers and monitor lizards along the way. The community-built footpath uses compacted earth reinforced by wooden steps in certain sections. Benches made from local timber now offer resting spots beneath towering trees.
Once hikers follow the babbling stream winding between limestone canyons, they find themselves just 50 meters from the main cascade. The falls plunge into a clear pool fed by underground springs, surrounded by steep rock faces draped with vines. Many visitors pause here to enjoy the shade, photograph the scene, or simply listen to the roar of water. Since its introduction to social feeds in 2016, visitation has remained modest, leaving the spot feeling exclusive and largely free of crowds even on peak weekends.
Village leaders and youth groups are now planning upgrades to make the experience more accessible. Proposed additions include sturdy handrails along slippery sections, stone stairways carved into the hillside, and safety signage at key points. There is talk of a covered resting pavilion near the water’s edge and marked observation areas to protect vegetation from off-trail visitors. Organizers believe these improvements will invite a wider range of guests, support small local businesses, and position Tangkub Waterfall as a must-see attraction for travelers touring the region.
