Taksu Yowana Bali Propels Beraban Youth onto International Dance Stage

Founded by Ni Luh Gede Risma Pertiwi in 2015, Taksu Yowana Bali Dance Studio began to offer Beraban Village’s youth an outlet for Balinese performing arts. It has become a center for creative workshops and a catalyst for fostering community identity and pride.

The studio hosts weekly training programs where members rehearse movements, learn the symbolism behind each gesture and gain the self-assurance needed for public stages. Through these sessions, dancers refine their technique and prepare for various presentations.

Beyond rehearsals, Taksu Yowana Bali takes part in local religious observances. A recent engagement at Pura Pekendungan in Beraban Village involved ngayah, a form of devotional performance that intertwines artistic expression with spiritual reverence, reflecting how dance serves cultural and faith-based roles on the island.

The troupe joins cultural highlights such as the Tanah Lot Festival in Tabanan. There, performers display traditional Balinese choreography to large audiences, reinforcing the group’s commitment to showcasing and preserving island heritage.

Alongside Balinese dance forms, the studio explores routines from across Indonesia. Young artists presented the Saman dance of Aceh, demonstrating an appreciation for national cultural diversity that enriches their creative experiences.

One of the studio’s most notable accomplishments came when its dancers traveled to France to represent Balinese performing arts internationally. The tour introduced these traditions to a global audience, spotlighting the group’s dedication and bringing honor to Beraban Village and the wider Bali region.

Remaining a creative hub, Taksu Yowana Bali continues promoting cultural education. With regular practice sessions, temple offerings, festival appearances and overseas tours, it preserves traditions and inspires young artists. The studio’s growth demonstrates how a grassroots initiative can evolve into a source of cultural pride beyond its origin.
